Before second grade, I was probably one of the worst students in my class. I was quite immature back then, and my family didn't really supervise me.
The summer after second grade ended, my math teacher, Li Xiucheng, came to my house to discuss having me repeat the grade. He thought I was a "promising student" and would receive extra training after repeating the grade, even telling me I could "get awards later." So, I started second grade again.
The teacher did indeed "focus on" me, for example, memorizing Chinese texts, even the punctuation marks. He even gave me an "official" title: class monitor and discipline committee member. I supervised others' studies every day, and I had this mentality that I had to learn everything myself first, otherwise I'd feel embarrassed supervising others. Plus, since it was indeed my second second grade, I got first place in the class at the end of the semester. From then on, I always got first or second place in all my elementary school exams; I felt ashamed if I came in second. Of course, I was also the flag bearer for raising the national flag and the captain of the Young Pioneers brigade.
And so I entered junior high school. The junior high teachers were very responsible, and I became a star student, consistently ranking at the top of my class.
Unsurprisingly, I entered the best high school in the city, which became my nightmare. I encountered a corrupt homeroom teacher, and coupled with my inability to adapt to the new environment, my grades were consistently poor. Later, I entered Beijing Wuzi University after the college entrance examination.
Regardless, I still got into a university in Beijing. I worked very hard, but I also felt lost for a time, so I started spending a lot of time in the library. In the library, I became fascinated with biographies of famous people, hoping to replicate their success.。
Before starting graduate school, I wanted to pursue a doctorate, but I changed my mind after my first month. I helped my professor write two books right after starting graduate school. Before that, I thought books were sacred, but after writing them, I not only felt that all books were just plagiarism, but I also lost interest in academia.
